What I Didn’t Know Then, I Sure As Hell Do Now

I am working hard to revamp my business foundation. So much more on the business aspect. Ugly, but necessary to succeed in this world. A to-do list has been made. To-do lists are a means to make the productivity go as smoothly as possible. Without the organization, the foundation will crumble.

To-do lists also help me stay focused when my mind enjoys a loop into the Attention-Deficient Disorder episodes. I guess you can say a counter-act of sorts to the obstacles that try to stand in my way path to find the means of the business life I want to succeed in.

Yes, my mind is slowly expanding towards the business aspect of my dreams. I’ve recently learned that majority of artists don’t understand the aspect of business. Some are not even willing to compromise their creativity, or expand in a sense to profit their artwork or work towards the demands of the business world. Especially with today. So many corporates give the word ‘business’ a bad name and even sometimes portray it as a satanic mindset, but let’s get back to earth. Like it or not, money makes the world go round, money puts food on the table (which reminds me…), money helps those in need. If you were true to your heart as an artist or a business individual, you wouldn’t hesitate to keep to your heart. Sacrifice a little to help others, but also make sure you can feed your own soul, mind, and body as well.

Regardless of everything going on in this world, STILL TODAY, nothing is just black and white. Not art, not reality, not science, not imagery, not politics, and not business. Everything is becoming clear. Everything is based on comprehension, perspective and subjective in the most obscene ways. My philosophical viewing is just getting stronger as I age, regardless of the current populum fallacy of the world.

I think that’s my cue to end this post. This is just an example of my ADD. One second I am talking about business, the next… philosophy? One of many mysteries of my mind. Welcome to my visions.

Philosophy Vision: Elements of Aesthetics

To interpret beauty and art, an artist must provide some kind of intention. Without intention, you can’t involve the rest of the elements, symbolism, metaphor, or expression. The beauty of intention is that the public does not need to meet the same ends as the artist did when he/she initially created the art form whether it’s poetry, paintings, sculpture, etc.

The public can’t always have the same mean as the artist, is of one these two, nor the public does not want to know the artist’s intention or simply we can’t know. For example, the passing of specific artists, the likes as of Shakespeare, Mozart, or the late Willem De Kooning.

Without intention, there cannot be art. A critic also must have the knowledge that meta-criticism also has to remain in the objective sense.  Therefore a critic cannot bring psychology or their personal feelings in judging an art piece. So the argument of whether monkeys can or cannot intend art, is NOT philosophy or meta-criticism of art. Therefore, it is invalid. Nor can monkeys’ paintings interpret symbolism, metaphors, or expression. Again, there is no intention, therefore it cannot be art nor can be critiqued as art.

De Kooning’s art piece, “Door to the River” is a prime example to differentiate between weak and strong intentions. Regardless of its weakness, it still has some kind of intention unlike monkey paintings. As modern art evolves with today’s society, abstract paintings have become popular. The lack of knowledge with his painting could cause various arguments within beauty and art easily.

 According to Beardsley, poetry is yet another strong example of abstract art. The idea of the complexity of the message, whether it involves symbolism, expression, or metaphor, is the grand critique. One could not possibly know the intention of the poem, unless the author puts performance in his/her speech. Depending on the poem, a piece of that particular art can easily become a weak intention or a strong intention. Again, there is still intention. 

However, the artists’ intention may or may not fail. According to Beardsley, the only proof is the work. “Judging a work is like judging a pudding or a machine.” The meaning of the quote is in order to get some kind of intention, whether the artists, authors or the critics, one must test the piece. For example, in order to get the intention of a poet’s, one must read the art form. Regardless if the final product has met the artist’s intention or created a new from the audience, there is still intention. 

The simplicity of the rebuttal that all authors have intention makes the intention argument that much stronger. Yes, all authors and artists (Homo sapiens) have some kind of intention.

The Little Knowledge I Have So Far For The Film Industry

Due to my busy schedule between three jobs, the college life, and my photography business, I haven’t seen a lot of family during this first quarter of the new(ish) year. My three little balls of fur known as my kids have also kept me busy to where as I haven’t been able to over think a lot of things. It’s probably a good thing too. Good forbid a daily post of poetry writings that would make me look like a bi-polar from hell.

I got to stop a visit at my mother’s Friday to drop off belated birthday presents for my stepfather and youngest nephew. You could tell I haven’t seen her in awhile due to me not able to shut the hell up and tell her all the things I been doing and how school is going. I think she realized I was kind of busy? I would hope so.

She asked if I liked my new program I started this semester at my college. I told her yes. The works behind the camera is fairly new to me beyond photography, so it’s all fresh knowledge for at least my Video-Productions Studio class. I love the challenge.

It also gave me a fresh appreciation on film making as a whole. The funny thing too is the more knowledge you gather in the film field, the more you also appreciate more of the non-Hollywood films and you start to critique movies beyond the screen. You start noticing the goofs with lighting, cameras, and as a writer, I focus on the dialogue as well, through the script writing. You start noticing the movies that use CGI effects way too much and which movies have a poor plot, climax, and story-telling as a whole.

The knowledge I have gathered this far in the film industry has me over-looking and editing some of my story lines already, and I don’t even have a big start on them yet.  I guess my movie addiction is finally paying off and without a damn intervention.

Speaking of, I have a movie to watch.
